Introduction

  • Due to financial constraint, there are many families in the state who are unable to send their children's to school.
  • They know with education their children can reach new heights, unlike them. However, they are helpless due to the economic crisis.
  • After ascertaining this, the state government has announced a scheme called 'Kerala Kedavilakku Scheme'.
  • The main objective of the scheme is to bridge the gap between financial constraint and education,
  • The government introduced Kerala Kedavilakku Scheme following the termination of a centrally sponsored program.
  • As you all know, the central government previously offered pre matric scholarships to these underprivileged categories.
  • In the year 2022, the central government stopped these scholarships, mentioning that the students in these classes fall under the RTE Act, thus they don't need scholarships.
  • However, the state government wanted to alleviate the burden of educational expenses, so they started the 'Kerala Kedavilakku Scheme'.
  • Under this scheme, the government will provide an annual scholarship of Rs 1,500/- to eligible students.
  • However, to qualify for the scheme the students must meet the eligibility criteria stated in the guidelines.
  • Students in class 1 to 8 studying in Government and Government aided schools, securing more than 90% marks and attendance in their previous examination are eligible for the scheme.
  • Additionally, the annual income of the family should not exceed the limit of Rs 2.5 lakh.
  • To promote girl child education, more than 50% of the beneficiaries are likely to be girls.
  • Students need to apply for Kerala Kedavilakku Scholarship scheme to receive its benefits.
  • Applications for the Scholarship scheme will be submitted offline, which students can obtain from their respective schools.
  • Fulfilling eligibility doesn't mean that all students will receive the benefits of the scheme.
  • As stated in the guidelines, benefits of the scholarship will be provided based on the academic record, low annual income of the family, and subject to availability of funds.
  • The assigned nodal department the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation will prepare a merit list of applicants.
  • Students must submit their Kerala Kedavilakku Scholarship application within the prescribed date.
  • Applications received post closing date will not be accepted and any request regarding this won't be considered.
  • In case of any query regarding the Kerala Kedavilakku Scheme, students and their parents contact the nodal department or school authorities.
  • Benefits promised under the scheme will be transferred online through DBT mode.
