Introduction

• There are a number of children in the state who are living as orphans in various shelter homes.
• Without proper adult protection, these orphans are being exploited and abused by society.
• Moreover, due to financial constraints, they are unable to continue their studies as well.
• To overcome this issue, the Kerala government has announced a scheme called 'Snehapoorvam Scheme'.
• The main objective of Kerala Snehapoorvam Scheme is to safeguard these children's from abuse and offer them with a good education without any financial constraints.
• Under this scheme, the government will provide financial support for their education, which will be provided monthly in ten equal installments or as a lump sum.
• With this, these children can complete their studies in their own or at relatives homes.
• However, in such cases where children have lost both mother and father and custodial parents are unable to protect and educate them, they will be kept in orphanages.
• For this, the government has constructed around 1500+ orphanages in the state.
• The benefits provided under the Kerala Snehapoorvam Scheme varies as per the eligibility of the children and the class they are studying in.

Benefits of Scheme

• The government aims to provide monthly assistance to each applicants under the 'Kerala Snehapoorvam scheme.
• Maximum ten assistance will be provided in an academic year, whose details are given as :-

  Class	Assistance amount (in Rs.)
  Children below 5 years studying from class 1st to 5th.	300/- per month.
  Children studying from Class 6th to 10th	500/- per month.
  Children in Class 11	750/- per month.
  Children studying in degree and professional degree.	1000/- per month.

Eligibility Criteria

• There are some eligibility conditions, that applicants need to fulfill to receive the benefits of the Kerala Snehapoorvam Scheme :-
  • He/She must be a native citizen of Kerala.
  • The beneficiary should belong to Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
  • The beneficiary should be a student from the first class to degree classes.
  • The annual income of the APL families should not exceed 20,000/- in rural areas and Rs. 22,375/ - in urban areas.
  • Children's who are below the age of 5 are directly eligible for the scheme.

• Applicants must keep their following documents ready, when applying for the 'Kerala Snehapoorvam Scheme' :-
  • Attested copy of Students Aadhaar Card.
  • Child identity proof.
  • Address Proof.
  • Income Certificate.
  • Ration Card.
  • BPL Card (if any).
  • Death Certificate of mother/father or both.
  • Bank Documents.

How to apply

• Beneficiaries can apply offline for the Kerala Snehapoorvam Scheme to receive its benefits.
• Applicants can obtain the Kerala Snehapoorvam Scheme application form from their respective institutions where the child is studying.
• Applicants, with the help of their guardians or teacher, can fill this application form.
• Affix the necessary documents as stated in the application form.
• Now submit this Kerala Snehapoorvam Scheme application form to the head of your institutions.
• The institution will check the details and upload the application online at Kerala Social Security Mission Portal.
• The Received application and documents will be verified by the nodal department.
• After successful verification, the benefits of Snehapoorvam Scheme will be credited to the applicants provided bank accounts.
