National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme is a central government scheme launched on 19th August 2016 to promote apprenticeship training and to increase the engagement of apprentices in designated and optional trades.

Apprenticeship Training consists of Basic Training and On-the-Job Training/Practical Training at workplace in the industry.

  1. Basic training is for those who have not undergone any institutional training/skill training before taking up on-the-job-training/practical training. It accounts for 20-25% of overall duration of Apprenticeship Training.
  2. There is a component of on-the-job training which is performed in the establishments and undertaken by the establishment itself.

Components of the Scheme

  1. Sharing of 25% of prescribed stipend subject to a maximum of Rs. 1500/- per month per apprentice with the employers.
  2. Basic training cost will be limited to Rs. 7500/- for a maximum of 500 hours/3 months.

Online portal would be used for administering the implementation of the Apprenticeship Training.

Eligibility Criteria

For Employer
  • Any person who has business in any trade or occupation.
  • Interested employers shall engage apprentices in a band of 2.5% to 10%
    of the total strength of the establishment.
  • Employers must have
    • EPFO/ESIC/Factory/Cooperative/MSME registration nmber.
    • TIN/TAN number
    • Aadhar linked bank account
  • Employers must register on the apprenticeship portal.
For Apprentice
  • He/She should be 14 years of age or above.
  • Must have an aadhar card
  • Must possess minimum educational and physical qualification prescribed for the trade.
  • Passed out trainees from ITI courses.
  • Trainees under dual-learning mode from ITIs.
  • Who completed PMKVY/MES-SDI or state Governments/Central government.
  • Graduates/diploma holders or pursuing graduationor 10+2 vocational certificate.
Basic Training
Providers
  • Government/Private ITI will automatically get selected as a BTP
    provided that they have spare seats (within overall affiliation) for running basic training.
  • BTP can apply thrugh portal for registration.
  • BTP application will be reviewed by RDAT.
  • Physical inspection of BTP will be arranged RDAT
  • Committee will submit inspection report on-line.
  • Selection and offer to BTP on-lin by RDAT.
  • BTP must have an Aadhar linked bases.

Processing Claims

  • Stipend including govt's share shall be paid to apprentices through Aadhar linked bank accounts.
  • Establishments need to upload a proof for payment of stipend to apprentice alongwith attendance particulars.
  • Govt's share will be reimbursed on a quarterly basis by respective RDAT or SAA.
  • Concerned RDATs will reimburse the payment to establishment's bank account within 10 days after verifying information.

How you can undergo apprenticeship training?

  1. You may access the apprenticeship portal for registration indicating sectors/trades of his choice
  2. Search for potential employers
  3. Send applications to potential employers for apprenticeship training,
  4. Online receipt and acceptance of offer letters from establishments
  5. Process all necessary contractual obligations online.

Procedure for the registration 

  1. Employers have to apply online at Establishment Registration Portal.
  2. Candidates have to apply at Apprentice Registration Portal
  3. BTPs have to register at BTP Registration Portal

At the end of apprenticeship training, the apprentice will appear at an All India Trade Test conducted by the National Council for Vocational Training in designated trades or optional trades under NAPS. Successful apprentice will be awarded National Apprenticeship Certificate, which is qualification for employment.
