Schedule Caste (SC), Other Backward Class (OBC) Free Coaching Scheme

Introduction

• This is 100% centrally funded free coaching scheme for SC and OBC students.
• It is fully operated and maintained by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
• It came into effect from September, 2001.
• Initially it was started as a joint scheme named "Coaching and Allied Support for Weaker Sections" in which minority students were also beneficiaries.
• But, in 2007, the government created a separate minority ministry, so the scheme was modified and the minority section was excluded from the scheme.
• Its main objective is to provide good quality coaching to economically weaker students and help them prepare for competitive examination.
• Under this scheme, the full fee of the student will be refunded after the student uploads the fee receipt.
• Rs. 4,000/- monthly stipend will also be given to the students on completion of the coaching period.
• To claim the monthly stipend the student has to upload the hall ticket of the examination along with the self certificate that he/she completed the coaching and took the examination.
• A total of 3500 seats are available every year.
• Out of total, 2450 seats are for Schedule Caste Students and 1050 seats are for Other Backward Caste Students.
• Out of the total, 2100 seats are allotted where the qualifying exam is graduation seats and 1400 seats area allotted where the qualifying exam is 12th Class.

Eligibility

• Schedule Caste Students.
• Other Backward Caste Students.
• The family income from all sources should not exceed Rs.8 lakh.
• Schedule Caste and Other Backward Caste students belonging to Minority community are not eligible.
• Students who have less than 50% marks in class 10th and 12th and are not eligible.

  • Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
  • Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
  • Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).
• Group A and B examination conducted by State Public Service Commission.
• Officers Grade examination conducted by :-
  • Banks.
  • Insurance Companies.
  • Public Sector Undertaking (PSUs).
• Entrance Examination like :-
  • National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
  • Common Admission Test (CAT).
  • Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
  • IIT-JEE.
• Examination like :-
  • Scholastic Assessment Test.
  • General Record Examination (GRE).
  • Graduate Management Assessment Test (GMAT).
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
• Entrance Examination for :-
  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
  • National Defence Academy.
  • Combined Defence Services.

Amount of Scholarship

• The total fees of coaching will be refunded to the students.
• A monthly Stipend of Rs. 4,000/- will be given to the selected students.
• The student will be given a stipend for the course or for 9 months whichever is less.

How to Apply

• Candidate has to first visit the online portal of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
• Click on Register.
• Enter the following details :-
  • Category.
  • Name.
  • Father's Name.
  • Gender.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Email ID.
  • Date of Birth.
  • Password (Anything choosen by you).
  • Confirm Your Password.
  • State of passing 10th Exam.
  • 10th Board Certificate Number.
  • Year of passing 10th Board.
  • Fill the Captcha and click on Register.
• LOGIN with your Email ID and Password.
• Fill up the Application Form.
• Upload the required documents.
• Submit your Application.
• After scrutiny, the merit list of the eligible candidates will bereleased on the website of the ministry.

Features of the Scheme

• Every year on 1st May the official portal invites applications from the students.
• Students have to submit their application within the time period of 30 days.
• It is mandatory for the student to join the coaching within 6 months from the date of declaration of merit.
• It is mandatory to take 16 hours of coaching per week for the course of the coaching program in which the student is enrolled.
• Coaching fees will be released only after the student submits a proof that he has paid the fees to the coaching institutes.
• The exam hall ticket must be uploaded within 30 days after the entrance exam is conducted.
• The stipend will be released in favor of the student after 30 days of uploading the hall ticket.
• The assistance amount will be directly transferred to the account of the students.
• If the coaching fee is more than the prescribed amount, the remaining amount will be borne by the student himself.
• Online coaching is not valid under this scheme, candidate will have to take offline coaching.
• No student will get the benefit more than twice.
• False information of any kind will not be entertained.

Seat Allocation to Schedule Caste

Out of total 3500 scholarship seats, 70% seats i.e. 2,450 seats is reserved for students belongs to Schedule Caste.

Seat Allocation to Other Backward Class

Out of total 3500 scholarship seats, 30% seats i.e. 1,050 seats is reserved for students belongs to Other Backward Class.
