PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme

Introduction

• Indian Government will slowly transfer its energy need to renewable energy due to increasing effect of Climate Change.
• Now to tackle the climate change on ground level, Government of India decides to take the help of citizens to contribute for the climate.
• A new scheme is launched for the people of India through which the domestic need of electricity will be fulfilled with the help of renewable source of energy.
• Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi started "PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme" on 13th of February 2024.
• Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is the implementing department of this scheme.
• The main objective behind starting PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme is to increase the income of people by providing them a relief on increasing electricity prices.
• People of India now generates electricity by themselves in their homes for the domestic usage.
• This scheme is also known by some other names such as "PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana" or "PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Scheme" or "Pradhanmantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme" or "Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana" or "PM Free Roof Top Solar Power Plant Scheme".
• Roof Top Solar Power Plant will going to be installed under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme so that the beneficiaries can fulfil their electricity/ energy needs at their home.
• Installation of Rooftop Solar Power Plant are not fully free of cost under this scheme but subsidy will be provided to all eligible beneficiaries for the installation of solar plant.
• It is to be expected that all beneficiaries of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme will get 300 Units of Free Electricity by installing solar plants on their roof top.
• Beneficiary can establish a domestic solar power plant from a capacity of 1 KW to 10 KW according to the uses of house under Central Government's PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
• Subsidy of Rs. 30,000/- per Kilowatt will be provided to beneficiary on the installation of roof top solar power plant up to capacity of 2 KW.
• Whereas an additional subsidy of Rs. 18,000/- per Kilowatt will be provided under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme to those beneficiaries who set up a solar plant up to 3 KW.
• Fix Subsidy of Rs. 78,000/- will be provided for installing roof top solar power plant of more than 3 KW.
• This means that if a beneficiary is decided to set up a solar power plant on roof top of a capacity of more than 3 KW then he/ she cannot avail the benefit of subsidy of more than Rs. 78,000/-.
• Rs. 78,000/- is the maximum subsidy provided under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
• Beneficiary can also choose the appropriate solar power plant for them according to the uses with the help of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme Subsidy Calculator.
• Government also releases the complete details of solar power plant according to the per month consumption of electricity of beneficiary which are as follows :-

• Bank Loan Facility on nominal interest rate is also available for the beneficiaries under PM Surya Ghar: Muf Bijli Yojana.
• Those beneficiaries are not eligible to avail the benefit of this scheme whose annual family income is more than Rs. 1,50,000/- per year.
• It is to be estimated that with the help PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme more than 1 Crore poor and middle class households will get the free of cost electricity up to 300 units per month by installing roof top solar power plant.
• Government of India sanctioned Rs. 75,000/- Crore for the proper implementation of this scheme.
• Beneficiary can very easily apply for PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.

• Subsidy provided under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme will be directly transferred in the bank account of beneficiary.
• Beneficiary can also check the State Wise List of Official Vendors who are authorised to install solar power plant under PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.

Benefits of Scheme

• Government of India will provide the following benefits to all eligible beneficiaries under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme :-
  • Subsidy will be provided on the Installation of Roof Top Solar Power Plant.
  • Free of Cost 300 Units per Month of Electricity will be Provided.
  • Subsidy of Rs. 30,000/- per KW will be applicable up to 2 KW Rooftop Solar Plant.
  • Additional Subsidy of Rs. 18,000/- per KW will be provided up to 3 KW Solar Rooftop Plant.
  • Maximum Subsidy of Rs. 78,000/- will be provided to install more than 3 KW of Roof Top Solar Plant.

Eligibility Criteria

• Subsidy on the installation of Roof Top Solar Power Plant under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme will be provided to only those beneficiaries who fulfil the following eligibility conditions :-
  • Only Indian Residents are Eligible to Apply.
  • Subsidy will only be provided on the Installation of Domestic Use Solar Plant.
  • The Annual Family Income of Beneficiary should not be more than Rs. 1,50,000/-.
  • Beneficiary Family should be belong to Poor and Middle Class.
  • Beneficiary should have a minimum space on terrace for solar plant installation.

• The below mentioned documents are required at the time of applying for subsidy on solar roof top systems under Central Government's PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme :-
  • Electricity Connection Number.
  • Current Electricity Bill.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Bank Account Details.
  • Passport Size Photograph.
  • Email ID.
  • Photograph of Roof/ Terrace.

How to Apply

• Eligible Beneficiaries can apply through Online Application Form and avail the benefit of 300 units per month of free of cost electricity by installing roof top solar systems under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
• Government of India launched the Official Website of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
• Online Application Form of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme is available on the Official Website.
• Beneficiary has to Register themselves first.
• The following details will be filled in the Registration Form of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme :-
  • State Name.
  • District Name.
  • Electricity Distribution Company Name.
  • Electricity Connection Number.
  • Mobile Number.
  • Email ID.
• Login in the Website again with the help of Mobile Number after successful Registration.
• Choose PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme after Login.
• Fill all the basic details in the Online Application Form of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
• Upload all the required documents on the website.
• Preview the application form carefully and then Click on Submit Button to submit the PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme Online Application Form.
• The Electricity Distribution Company of beneficiaries concerned state will verify all the received application forms and provide Feasibility Certificate to all eligible beneficiaries.
• After receiving Feasibility Certificate, Beneficiaries can install electric solar system on their roof top through any vendor who are authorised by the electricity company.
• After the installation of roof top solar system, beneficiary will have to fill the solar plant details on PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme Website and apply for Net Meter.
• Electricity Distribution Company will then do a ground inspection after the installation of Net Meter in Roof Top Solar Plant.
• Commissioning Certificate will be issued by the Electricity Distribution Company after the inspection.
• Beneficiary can Download the Commissioning Certificate from PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme Website.
• Bank Account Details or Cancelled Blank Cheque will then uploaded by the beneficiary on the website.
• Beneficiary will then Apply for Subsidy under PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
• The subsidy amount as per the capacity of installed solar power plant will be transferred in the bank account of beneficiary within 30 days of apply.
• The Application Status of PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme can be checked on the Official Website of Scheme.
