Introduction

  • Gitanjali Housing Scheme is the major housing assistance scheme of West Bengal Government.
  • On 01-04-2014, West Bengal Government merged other housing assistance scheme named "Amar Thikana" with Gitanjali Housing Scheme.
  • The main objective behind starting this scheme is to provide shelter of their own to those economically weaker section and BPL Card holder families who does not have a pucca house in the name of any family member.
  • Financial Assistance to construct house on their own land will be provided to all eligible beneficiaries under Gitanjali Housing Scheme.
  • Constructed Houses will also provided to those people who does not hold any land to construct their own house in urban area.
  • Gitanjali Housing Scheme is applicable in all rural and urban areas of West Bengal.
  • Constructed House or Financial Assistance to construct house will also provided to those people who lost their house in any natural calamity or in any government rehabilitation project.
  • The government has given full attention to the construction of houses for the economically weaker section of the people.
  • Gitanjali Housing Scheme is implemented in rural areas by six departments according to the category of beneficiary which are as follow:-
    • Minority Affairs & Madrasah Education Department.
    • Backward Classes Welfare Department.
    • Fisheries Department.
    • Forest Department.
    • Sundarban Affairs Department.
    • Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs Department.
  • Financial Assistance to construct house ranging from Rs. 1,23,000/- to Rs. 3,00,000/- will be provided according to the category of the beneficiary under Gitanjali Housing Scheme of West Bengal Government.
  • Families belonging to Economically Weaker Section (EWS) or Below Poverty Line (BPL) are eligible to get financial assistance for the construction of house under this scheme.
  • Eligible Beneficiaries can apply for Gitanjali Housing Scheme through by filling Application Form which is available in the Office of Gram Panchayat or District Magistrate or Municipal Corporation or Housing Department.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant should be a Permanent Resident of West Bengal.
  • Applicant should have EWS Certificate or BPL Card.
  • The monthly Income of Applicant should not be more than Rs. 6,000/- per Month.
  • Applicant should be Homeless and Poor.
  • Applicant should have own a Land for House Construction in Rural Area.
  • Applicant resides in Urban Area doesn't need to own his/ her own land.
  • Those people are also eligible for housing assistance who lost their house due to any of the following reason :-
    • Erosion.
    • Flood.
    • Government Projects. (Rehabilitation Measures)

Documents Required

  • EWS Certificate or BPL Card.
  • Aadhaar Card.
  • Any one of the following document as Age Proof:-
    • Birth Certificate.
    • School Leaving Certificate.
    • Passport.
  • Any one of the following document as Address Proof :-
    • Voter ID.
    • Electricity Bill.
    • Water Bill.
    • Telephone Bill.
  • Income Certificate.
  • Bank Account Details.
  • Passport Size Photo.
  • Mobile Number.

How to Apply

  • Eligible Beneficiaries can apply for housing assistance under Gitanjali Housing Scheme through by filling Offline Application Form.
  • Gitanjali Housing Scheme Application Form is available in Gram Panchayat Office in Rural Area and District Magistrate Office or Municipal Corporation Office in Urban Area.
  • Collect the Application Form.
  • Attach all the required documents with the application form.
  • Submit the Application Form along with all the documents in the same office from where the Application Form was collected.
  • Office of the District Magistrate will verify the received application forms and documents.
  • List of beneficiaries selected under Gitanjali Housing Scheme will be made.
  • Selected Beneficiary List will then forwarded to Housing Department for final approval.
  • After final approval, District Magistrate will release the 1st instalment of 50% amount of Gitanjali Housing Scheme.
  • 2nd Instalment of 50% Amount will be released after utilisation of the 1st Instalment amount.
