Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana

Introduction:-

Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15th August 2014. It is a National Mission for financial inclusion for ensuring access to financial services, such as :-

• Banking
• Savings
• Deposit Accounts
• Remittance
• Credit
• Insurance
• Pension in an affordable manner.

Under this scheme, people can open account with zero balance in any branch or business correspondent (Bank Mitr) outlet. However, if the account-holder wants to get cheque book, he/she will have to fulfill minimum balance criteria.

Features of the scheme: -

1. All households across the country - both rural and urban are to be covered under the scheme.
2. Overdraft facility of Rs 5,000 for Aadhar-linked accounts after satisfactory operation in the account for 6 months.
3. A minimum monthly remuneration of Rs 5,000 to business correspondents who will provide the last link between the account holders and the bank.
4. Issue of RuPay Debit Card with inbuilt Rs 1 lakh personal accidental insurance cover provided by HDFC Ergo and a life cover of Rs 30,000 provided by LIC.

Benefits under PMJDY scheme : -

• Interest on deposit will be given.
• Under this scheme accidental insurance cover of Rs. 2 lakhs is provided.
• No minimum balance required. Account can be opened with zero balance.
• The scheme provide life cover of Rs. 30,000/- payable on death of the beneficiary, subject to fulfillment of the eligibility conditions.
• Easy Transfer of money across India.
• Beneficiaries of Government Schemes will get Direct Benefit Transfer in these accounts.
• An overdraft facility will be permitted after satisfactory operation of the account for 6 months.
• Easy access to pension and insurance products.
• The Claim under Personal Accidental Insurance under PMJDY shall be payable if the Rupay Card holder have performed minimum one successful financial or non-financial customer induced transaction at any Bank Branch, Bank Mitra, ATM, POS, E-COM etc.
• Overdraft facility upto Rs. 10,000/- is available in only one account per household, preferably lady of the household.

Documents required to open JanDhan Account : -

• Aadhar Card 
• Voter ID card
• Driving License
• PAN card
• Passport
• Job card issued by NREGA
• any other document as notified by the Central Government in consultation with the Regulator:
• 2 copies of signed photographs.

Pradhan Mantri Jandhan Account is a linked platform for 4 social security schemes :-

1. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana.
2. Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.
3. Atal Pension Yojana.
4. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana.

The PMJDY scheme has been extended with the change in focus on opening accounts from "every household" to "every adult" with following modifications:

1. Over draft limit extended from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000.
2. Age limit for availing overdraft facility revised from 18-60 years to 18-65 years.
3. The accidental insurance cover raised from 1,00,000 Rs to 2,00,000 Rs. for new accounts opened after 28/8/2018.
4. There is no condition attached for active PMJDY accounts availing OD upto Rs. 2,000.
