West Bengal Sabooj Sathi Scheme

Introduction

• West Bengal Sabooj Sathi Scheme is the flagship scheme of the Government of West Bengal.
• It was launched in the year 2015.
• The main objective behind starting this scheme is to encourage school going students especially girls to completed their basic education.
• Backward Classes Department of West Bengal is the nodal department of this scheme.
• West Bengal Schedule Caste, Schedule Tribe, Other Backward Class Development and Finance Corporation is the nodal agency of this scheme.
• The tag line of West Bengal Sabooj Sathi Scheme is "Wheels of Change".
• Sabooj Sathi Scheme is also known by other name i.e., "West Bengal Free Cycle Distribution Scheme" or "West Bengal Free Cycle Scheme".
• Government of West Bengal will provide free of cost bicycle to all eligible students under Sabooj Sathi Scheme.
• Students studying in Class 9th to Class 12th will be eligible to get free of cost cycle under this scheme.
• Only students of Government Schools or Government Run Schools and Madrasahs will be considered eligible to get free of cost cycle under Sabooj Sathi Scheme of West Bengal Government.
• The list of eligible students of sabooj sathi scheme will be prepared and sent to the department by the concerned school.
• Students can further contact their school for any information regarding West Bengal Sabooj Sathi Scheme.
• Government of West Bengal issued the tender to procure 15,00,000 cycles for distribution for Sabooj Sathi Scheme phase 9 implementation.

Benefits of Scheme

• The following benefits will be provided to all eligible student beneficiaries under Sabooj Sathi Scheme of West Bengal Government :-
  • Free Bicycles will be provided to Students of Class 9th to 12th.

Eligibility Criteria

• Beneficiary Student should be Resident of West Bengal.
• Students should be studying in any of the following schools :-
  • Government Run School.
  • Government Aided School.
  • Government Sponsored School.
  • Madrashas of West Bengal State.
• Students should be studying in any class given below :-
  • Class 9th.
  • Class 10th.
  • Class 11th.
  • Class 12th.

Documents Required

• Documents required at the time of applying to avail the benefit of free of cost bicycle under West Bengal Government's Sabooj Sathi Scheme are as follows :-
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Student's Identity Card.
  • Mobile Number.

How to Apply

• Students do not need to apply anywhere to get free of cost bicycle under West Bengal Sabooj Sathi Scheme.
• The school where the student studies will register the eligible students on the Sabooj Sathi Portal.
• After filling the information of the students, they will be verified by the school.
• After proper verification of all the filled information, the student's information will be submitted by the school on the Sabooj Sathi Portal.
• After that the application will be scrutinized by the District Nodal Officer of the District.
• After the list of eligible students is made, Bicycles will be given to the students in the school or in a group program in the place chosen by the Government.

Features of the Scheme

• Sabooj Sathi Scheme has been implemented phase wise by West Bengal Governrment.
• So far, a total of 8 phases of this scheme have been completed and now the 9th phase of Sabooj Sathi Scheme has started.
• In the first phase, 25.34 Lakh Bicycles were given by the Government and in the second phase, 9.60 Lakh Bicycles were given to the students.
• Since 2015, 1,04,16,525 Bicycles have been distributed by the Government to the students, out of which 48,79,143 have been given to boys and 48,79,143 to girls.
• 12,235 schools have been involved in the scheme so far.
• Students will be provided with cycles made by the following manufacturers :-
  • Hero Cycles Ltd.
  • TI Cycles Ltd.
  • Avon Cycles Ltd.
